Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is there a guarantee in the training you offer?
Due to the many variables involved in creating a well-behaved, balanced dog, including owner commitment, consistency, and follow-through, it would be unrealistic for me to offer a 100% guarantee. However, I choose the most dedicated and diligent owners with whom I can work as a team. I have consistently seen results and transformations, even in dogs with severe issues. I work hand in hand with you in your dog’s rehabilitation/behavior transformation. My collaboration with you begins before I meet your dog, moves through the training process, and continues after your dog has gone home. Once you hire me, you're considered part of the EasTex K9 family. Your dog’s success is my utmost priority.
2. Who will be working with my dog? Is Danny the only trainer?
In the Board and Train Program, Danny will be the only one training your dog. Danny will also be working with you in the go-home/in-home sessions.
3. Will I get to see my dog during the Board and Train?
I will determine if owner participation is appropriate or helpful to the program. In most cases, however, we find owner participation is counterproductive to the rehabilitation and training process.
4. Does EasTex K9 use treats to train dogs?
In certain circumstances food may be used but is discontinued quickly. A young dog just learning what is expected may be initially rewarded with treats. After this, the dog is expected to work with me based on leadership rather than food.
5. Why do you use prong collars?
I use prong collars because I find them to be the best tool for connecting and communicating. Many tools only mask or manage the behavior. However, a properly fitted prong collar allows effective communication with the least amount of physical stress to the dog and owner. This creates a positive state of mind and a highly responsive dog. While prong collars tend to look horrible, when used correctly, they have been proven to be the least physically taxing, most humane, and one of the safest tools available.
7. Why do you use E-Collars?
Modern E-Collar training is effective, reliable, and humane. It is the most transformational training available today.
8. How do you train with an E-Collar?
I use low-level, communication-style, modern E-Collar training.
9. My dog is fearful and nervous – I've been told I shouldn't use an E-Collar with him.
Actually, modern E-Collar training is the best training for dogs with these types of issues. Our E-Collar training system is designed to create more confident, relaxed, and comfortable dogs.
10. My dog is really aggressive. Do you work with aggressive dogs?
Yes. Dogs exhibit aggressive behaviors for a lot of different reasons, including fear. Certain objects, sounds, or situations trigger aggressive reactions. I'm able to identify those triggers by working with you. I then specifically address them in the training program.
11. My dog is uncontrollable on the walk – pulling, lunging, barking, growling – can you fix this?
We consistently get fantastic results with all levels of issues, from mild pulling and disobedience, to severe dog reactivity. This specific behavior is common and I usually find other issues as well when an owner can't walk their dog. All of these issues can be addressed in training.
